Long queues at filling points, fears fuel shortage
Long queues of motorists were seen at the filling stations in Colombo a short while ago to refuel their vehicles in fear of a possible shortage due to the planned strike action by petroleum the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) Unions’ Collective effective from midnight today.
Speaking on the matter some filling station owners said large crowed who feared fuel shortage will erupted were gathered to receive fuel to their vehicles before the strike to be launched. (

President Maithripala Sirisena this evening approved an extraordinary gazette making garbage disposal services by all local government bodies an ‘essential service’ with effect from Thursday’s midnight.
The gazette focuses on steps that are being taken when disposing, collecting, transporting, storing, preparing, segregating garbage and disposing garbage collected from households as well as that which is collected from the road and related services.

SLFP May Day Rally in Getambe
Western Province Chief Minister, Isura Devapriya, said the SLFP's May Day rally will be held in Getambe, Kandy with least inconvenience to the public.
He added the arrangements are already being made to minimize the traffic jam that is likely to occur during the May Day rally and the alternative routes will be used if necessary. "Road closures will not take place except the lane of the road that will be occupied by the participants of the rally," he assured.
Large asteroid flies past Earth
Asteroid 2014 J025, the largest asteroid to date to have ever approached Earth, passed the planet yesterday morning (19) at a distance of about 1.8 million kilometres, according to NASA.
Although there was no possibility of the asteroid colliding with Earth, this was a very close approach for an asteroid of this size. It is roughly 2,000 feet (650 metres) in length and its surface is about twice as reflective as that of the moon.
