Aravinda de Silva steps down

Chairman of Cricket Committee Aravinda de Silva to step down from July 1. He has tendered his resignation to Sri Lanka Cricket yesterday. SLC cites personal reason for resignation.

Ramith Rambukwella gets engaged

Sri Lanka’s allrounder Ramith Rambukwella got engaged to his long time friend Natalie Shenelle, recently. His fellow crickets were also present at the privetly held cermony.

Rambukwella, a dashing left-handed batsman and right-arm off break bowler, made his international debut for Sri Lanka in November 2013 against New Zealand. A hard hitting middle order batsman, he has particularly been popular for smashing big sixes, and he tidy bowling is more than handy.

Arrest warrant issued on Dilshan

The Colombo Magistrate Courts yesterday issued an arrest warrant against former cricket captain Tillakaratne Dilshan over a maintenance case.

Dilshan has failed to pay the monthly maintenance fee of Rs.20,000 and the insurance of his child from his previous marriage.

Gayle first to hit 10,000 Twenty20 runs

Chris Gayle has become the first batsman to accumulate 10,000 Twenty20 runs, going past the milestone during a match-winning blitz in the Indian Premier League.

Swashbuckling West Indian Gayle, 37, who plies his trade across the world’s Twenty20 leagues, smashed 77 off 38 balls with five fours and seven sixes to lead Royal Challengers Bangalore to a 21-run win over Gujarat Lions in Rajkot on Tuesday.

Murali to be inducted into ICC Hall of Fame

Legendary spinner Muttiah Muralitharan will be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame during the Champions Trophy tournament in England, SLC announced yesterday.

Murali became the first Sri Lankan to be voted into the ICC Hall of Fame last year and will be formally inducted in June.

ICC Announces Champions Trophy Ambassadors

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday announced eight stalwarts of the modern era as Champion Ambassadors for this summer’s ICC Champions Trophy which will be staged at three iconic venues of England and Wales from 1-18 June.

Shahid Afridi of Pakistan, Bangladesh’s Habibul Bashar, Ian Bell of England, Shane Bond of New Zealand, Australia’s Mike Hussey, India’s Harbhajan Singh, Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka and Graeme Smith of South Africa were unveiled as the Ambassadors with exactly 50 days to go before the first ball is bowled in the tournament opener between England and Bangladesh at The Oval.
