Namal’s fmr. Secretary Ornella arrested at BIA

MP Namal Rajapaksa’s former secretary Ornella Iresha Silva was arrested this morning at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake following a court order.

She was arrived at the BIA at 05.07 this morning from Abu Dhabi

Later she was handed over to the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) officers at the airport.

Litro Gas Chairman arrested

Shalila Munasinghe, the Chairman of Litro Gas, had been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today, CID sources said.

It was reported that Rs.110 million stolen from the Far Eastern International Bank in Taiwan had been found in his bank account.

Namal's secretary arrested in Abu Dhabi

A young woman who is said to be the former secretary of MP Namal Rajapaksa has been arrested in Abu Dhabi, reports say.

The individual, identified as Batapola Arachchilage Ornella Iresha Silva, was wanted by the FCID over her having aided Namal to launder Rs. 30 million of black money through Gower’s Corporate Services.

CID arrests two men over Taiwan bank hacking

The police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have arrested two men for allegedly helping international criminals who hacked into computers at a Taiwan bank and stole millions of dollars, an official said Sunday.

The pair were arrested after they tried to withdraw large sums of money that had been wired to their accounts with a Sri Lankan bank branch in the capital Colombo, the official said.

Arsenic in the liver of broiler chickens!

Researchers advise the public to minimize the consumption of the liver of broiler chickens as it has been found to contain arsenic, ‘Lankadeepa’ reports.

The Sri Jayewardenepura University’s Chemistry Department conducted a study on selected chicken varieties and established that broiler chickens are fed with certain ingredients to eliminate organisms in their bowels that turn into arsenic in their stomachs.

One rape in every four hours in Sri Lanka

Sabaragamuwa Province Governor President’s Counsel Marshal Perera said it was a disturbing matter that a rape of a woman take place every four hours in Sri Lanka that carries the reputation as the country that produced the first woman prime minister and the first woman president in the world.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Textile and Trade Exhibition 2017 organised by the Provincial Minister of Industries he said that schoolgirls were the victims in many instances.

Video shows police officer attacking protester

A video footage captured following the joint opposition-led protest held at Hambantota today, showed a senior police officer assaulting an arrested protester.

Meanwhile, posting the video on his Twitter page, MP Namal Rajapaksa asked, “A.S.P. Daluwaththa, is this Yahapalanaya?”

Gunathilaka suspended for six matches

Sri Lanka Cricket has suspended opener Danushka Gunathilaka for six international matches on disciplinary grounds, Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed on Thursday.

He has also been imposed a 20% fine of his applicable annual contract fee for violations of Section 30 (a-ii ) and 30 (b) of the Constitution of Sri Lanka Cricket and of clauses 3.1.2, 3.1.9, 3.3.1, and 3.4 of his contract with Sri Lanka Cricket during the recently concluded India Series in Colombo.
