A woman was killed while another 4 persons including three children were injured after a car collided with a train at the Halpe Mawatha railway crossing in Kandana.
Police said that a train transporting fuel traveling from Katunayake to Kolonnawa had come into contact with the car, which had reportedly attempted to pass through the crossing while the signals were changing.

The car driver’s wife, two sons (9-year-old and 8-month-old), his sister and her 9-month–old son were rushed to the Ragama Hospital following the accident.
However, the driver’s 32-year-old sister, a resident of Batagama, had succumbed to injuries before being admitted to the hospital.
Kandana Police is conducting an investigation into the incident.
