Funeral of Dr. Nalin De Silva in USA tomorrow


The funeral of Dr. Nalin De Silva will take place in the United States tomorrow at 1.00 pm, according to the wishes of his family.

Dr. De Silva was a distinguished figure in the realms of theoretical physics, philosophy, and political analysis. He died on May 1 while visiting his son in the US. He was 79. A number of organizations led

by the Maha Sangha will conduct religious rites tomorrow at 3.00 pm at the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress. This ceremony is organised by Chief Incumbent of Dharmayathanaya, Colombo 7, Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thera and Chairman of Chinthana Parshadaya Ven. Bengamuwe Nalaka Thera.

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena is also scheduled to participate in this ceremony tomorrow.

Dr. De Silva, born on October 20, 1944, in Kowilagodella, Panadura, embarked on a remarkable journey of scholarly pursuits from his early years.

Educated at prestigious institutions such as Bauddhaloka Maha Vidyalaya Wekada, Thurston College, Colombo, and later at the University of Ceylon, his academic prowess was evident at a young age. In 1970, he earned his PhD in theoretical cosmology from the University of Sussex, solidifying his standing as a formidable intellectual in the field.

Beyond his scientific endeavours, Professor De Silva delved into the intricate interplay between politics, philosophy, and societal dynamics. His tenure as the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Myanmar underscored his multifaceted expertise and diplomatic acumen.
