Three people, including the brother of a sixteen-year-old girl who committed suicide by jumping onto a railway track in Balapitiya on July 23, have been arrested on suspicion of killing the girl’s boyfriend.
Her boyfriend’s body was discovered three days after her death, in a well in Kobeithuduwa, Ambalangoda.
The young man was reported missing after the train accident which claimed the life of his 16-year-old girlfriend around 10:40 a.m. on a Saturday. The incident was recorded on CCTV cameras fixed at a nearby house, which showed the young girl running towards the railway.
Police said that the brother of the girl was arrested in Rambukkana on Thursday night.
Information gathered after questioning the brother led to the arrest of two other suspects. However, a fourth suspect had fled the area, but investigations are underway to apprehend him.
The suspects, arrested based on the investigations conducted by the Meetiyagoda police in this regard are due to be produced before the Balapitiya Magistrate court today, Friday, September 23.
