AL results of 80 students put on hold

The results of 80 students, who sat at the 2016 GCE Advanced Level examinations, have been put on hold due to alleged irregularities, a top official said yesterday.

Commissioner General of Examination, W.M.N.J. Pushpakumara said that this group of students had provided doctored documents enabling them to sit the exam in remote areas, in a bid to enjoy the special quota system. The department received information about these candidates while the examination was in progress and together with officials from the Education Ministry investigations were carried out into the matter, Pushpakumara said.

After completing investigations, the department decided to halt the results of these 80 students who faced the exam from remote areas of Central, North-central and North-western Provinces.

Two principals, who allegedly connived with the students, were also suspended from their jobs until the investigations are completed, he added.

Furthermore, Joseph Stalin, the General Secretary of Ceylon Teachers' Union (GSCTU), stated that 12 more principals are also alleged to have supported the students in this racket. Necessary steps should be taken against them according to the law, he said.
