Group of Lankan Ministers, MPs in London

A group of Sri Lankan Ministers and MPs were in London to participate in some official ceremonies.

Education Minister, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam attended the Education World Forum held in London from January 22-25.

Minister of Skills Development and Vocational Training, Mahinda Samarasinghe, signed a Letter of Intent with University of Coventry on behalf of the National Institute of Business Management.

Members of Parliament Vijitha Herath, E. Sarawanapawan, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Malith Jayathilaka, Edward Gunasekara, Ananda Kumarasiri, Lucky Jayawaradane and Chandima Gamage attended a workshop organised by Westminster Foundation for Democracy. These MPs are the heads of Sectoral Oversight Committees in Sri Lanka.

The workshop was held at the House of Commons from January 23-27. They were accommodated at the ‘Double Tree’ by the Hilton Hotel in London close to the British parliament.

Parliamentarian Vijitha Hearath told The Sunday Island that it was a productive workshop and they will try to apply some of the theories they learned in Sri Lanka.

He also said that he is planning to hold discussions with the Sri Lankan community living in London, Birmingham and Ireland about the current political situation in Sri Lanka.
