Delimitation Report set for Gazetting

The report of the Delimitation Appeals Committee will be handed over to the Government Printer on 17 February to be published by gazette notification, Secretary to the Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Councils Kamal Padmasiri said.

The gazetting of the report has been repeatedly delayed and thus has been the solitary reason why the Local Government elections have been postponed for over a year.
The Committee was to hand over the report in March 2016. However, the deadline was extended several times. Earlier this year Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government, Faiszer Musthapha refused to accept the report of the Delimitation Appeals Committee as the document was not signed by all five Committee members.

However Musthapha accepted the report compiled by the Delimitation Appeals Committee in mid - January and said he would gazette the report within a few weeks.
