A leak at a fuel station in Akurassa area has contaminated the Nilwala River. A leak in the containment tank at the fuel station is believed to have caused the contamination.Speaking to Daily News, Water Board officials stated that the supply of water to Matara and surrounding areas have been currently stopped due to the contamination of water sources in the area.
Further, officials stated that steps were currently being taken to rectify the contamination of the river and the water supply would be resumed as soon the issue was rectified.
