Heavy showers over The next few days

The Meteorology Department yesterday warned of heavy rains of about 100 mm particularly in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Eastern, Southern and Uva provinces due to the influence of the atmospheric disturbance in the Bay of Bengal to the southeast of Sri Lanka.

Issuing a weather warning, the Met Department said that cloudy skies and showery conditions were expected to enhance during the next few days, particularly in the Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Western, Eastern and Uva provinces.

Due to the active cloudiness in the Southern seas, the possibility of heavy showers and sudden roughness of the sea areas associated with sudden increase of wind speed (up to 70-80 kmph) off the coast extending from Batticaloa to Galle via Pottuvil and Hambantota could be expected, according to the met department. The Met Department requested Naval and fishing communities to remain vigilant. (MM)
