KANDY – Former General Secretary of the United National Party (UNP) and Parliamentrain Tissa Attanayake said in Kandy yesterday that he was exploring the possibility of getting representatives of the International Human Rights Organisation as observers for the hearing of the case against him.
"The case against me is so unique that it is the first ever case filed based on a speech from a political platform", Tissa Attanayake told the media after calling on the prelate of Malwatte on Wednesday (18) afternoon.
He said charges against him did not include a charge for producing a fraudulent document but there was a charge of producing a duplicated document and another charge of preventing the victory of the President.
He said he was confident that the court would dispense justice.
Responding to media, Attanayake said that he had not joined any political party or any political group at the moment.
He said however that he had not given up politics. He would join the political group that would be the most popular and most wanted by the masses.
Asked whether he was in favour of the political stand taken by venerable Ratana, Attanayake said Ratana Thera was a whole hearted supporter to bring the present government into power. "But I have not decided to join his group" he said.
This is a period of uncertainty in the country. People are confused. It is hard for the people to live in a period of Nonagathe in the country, he added.
Attanayake paid a courtesy call on the prelate of Asgiriya also.
