A private bus owner was shot dead at Pitipana Road in Homagama yesterday.
The dead person has been identified as Chaminda Perera (34), Homagama Police said.
Perera had been shot dead with a T-56 automatic rifle by a person who arrived on a motorcycle, witnesses told Police.
The shooting was due to a longstanding dispute between two rival parties, the police said, adding a special police team had been deployed to nab the killer. Another police team has been tasked with scrutinising a video footage obtained from the CCTV cameras in the area, police said.
