The special commodities levy imposed on a kilogramme of imported rice was reduced from RS. 15 to Rs. 5 with effect from midnight January 27.
A communique issued by the Finance Ministry says that this decision was taken based on the instructions of the President and the Prime Minister.
The aim behind the reduction is to provide relief to the general public.
The tax reduction is applicable for imported Red Kekulu, Nadu and Samba rice.
