President Maithripala Sirisena said that he will repeal a directive issued by a former President which made it mandatory for senior government officials to be clad in western attire when attending public functions.
He added that senior officials do not need to wear a coat and tie from now on, unless the occasion demands it. He made this statement addressing a function at which he unveiled the government's policy on new buildings constructed by the State.
Sirisena added that he has encountered a number of State officials clad in coat and tie at certain occasions and apparently they seemed to be uncomfortable.
