Ravi told state banks to bid low

During startling evidence by eight witness from the three state banks (BoC, NSB and People’s Bank), before the PCoI it was revealed that former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake had asked state banks to bid at lower rates at two bond auctions with the assurance that other bids at higher rates would not be accepted. However, on both occasions at those auctions the CBSL had accepted bids much more than the advertised amount and at much higher rates.

Malinga dropped from Pakistan ODI squad

Malinga, who has shown indifferent form since making his comeback to the national set-up, had an ordinary series against India at home last month and as a result, has fetched the axe. Former skipper Angelo Mathews, who couldn't feature in the ongoing Test series due of a calf injury, has failed to recover in time for the ODIs.
Mathews, who has been plagued by calf and hamstring injuries in recent times, faced a fitness test on Monday (October 2). "Angelo is struggling. We thought he will be okay for the ODIs, but on Monday while running he felt the pain again and has been ruled out. It's a massive loss for us," a Sri Lanka Cricket spokesman told Cricubzz.

Udaya Gammanpila indicted

The Colombo High Court indicted MP Udaya Gammanpila and Sydney Jayasinghe who were alleged to have misappropriated Rs. 21 million following a fraudulent share transaction that took place in 2000, a short while ago.

Two accused Udaya Gammanpila and Sydney Jayasinghe are currently out on bail.

The Attorney General (AG) alleged that MP Udaya Gammanpila has cheated Rs. 20 million and misappropriated another Rs. 21 million along with Sydney Jayasinghe, the second accused when selling shares of Digital Nominees to a businessman called Dhammika Perera.

Dayarathna Thera remanded till October 9

Venerable Akmeemana Dayarathana Thera, who was arrested by the Colombo Crime Division (CCD), was remanded till October 9 by the Mt.Lavinia Magistrate’s Court today.

The Thera was arrested earlier today in connection with the incident in Mt. Lavinia on September 26, in which a group of protesters allegedly harassed the group of 31 Myanmar refugees.

At least 50 dead, 200 injured in Las Vegas shooting

More than 50 people have been killed and at least 200 injured in a mass shooting at a Las Vegas concert, the BBC reported.

A gunman opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel toward an open-air music festival being held close by.

Police said a suspect identified as a local resident, who was not named, had been shot and killed by officers.

SL beat Pakistan by 21 runs

Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by 21 runs in the first Test of the 2-Test series as Pakistan failed to chase down a meagre 136-run target and were all out for 114. Sri Lanka lead the series 1-0 now.

Pakistan were 67 for 5 at Tea and with skipper Sarfraz Ahmad and Haris Sohail still at the crease, there was some hope still in the Test for the hosts. However, Pakistan kept losing wickets after the Tea break. Sarfraz got out after scoring 19 runs while Haris Sohail scored 34 runs, highest in the innings.

Second heart transplant patient dies at KGH

Sachini Sewwandi (19) the heart patient who underwent a transplant surgery at the Cardiothoracic Unit of the Kandy General Hospital died on Saturday (30) while at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital, sources said.

The second heart transplant surgery of Kandy Hospital was performed on Sewwandi, with a heart taken from a brain dead youth on Wednesday (27) by a team of specialist heart surgeons of the Kandy General Hospital.

Lanka IOC to increase fuel prices

Lanka IOC today said that they are planning to increase the prices of petrol and diesel next month.
Lanka IOC Managing Director Shyam Bohra said that the final decision in this regard would be taken soon.
It said that the prices further gone up significantly in the international market in the recent month.
