Thalatha Take oaths as new Justice Minister

Foreign Employment Minister Thalatha Atukorale was sworn in as the new Justice Minister before President Maithripala Sirisena a short while ago.

Meanwhile, Wildlife Minister Gamini Jayawickrama Perera was sworn in as the Minister of Buddha Sasana.

Geetha only MP with dual citizenship

The Immigration Controller has informed the election observer PAFFREL today that Parliamentarian Geetha Kumarasinghe was the only MP who holds a dual-citizenship.

Addressing a news briefing, PAFFREL Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi said Immigration Controller M.N. Ranasinghe had informed them in writing that it was only Ms. Kumarasinghe who had been issued with a dual-citizenship certificate numbered 17096A.

No-confidence motion against Rajitha

A no-confidence motion was signed by the Joint Opposition (JO) against Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne, today in Parliament.

Parliamentarian Shehan Semasinghe said that the no-confidence motion would be submitted soon.

The JO alleged Minister Rajitha Senaratne to have been involved in several corruption cases.

Two headed serpent

A two headed catsnake (Mapila) which crept into a house at Bangadeniya Chilaw was caught by the inmates yesterday morning. Curious neighbours flocked to the house to have a glimpse of this freak reptile.

Ajith Cabraal at Bribery commission

Former Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal arrived at the Bribery Commission today.

He was summoned by the Commission to make a statement.

Govt. can continue till 2025 if Wijeyadasa leaves

Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne has said that this government could go on till 2025 and not upto 2020, if Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe leaves the government.

He said on Sunday that he would request the President to allow this minister who is due to leave his portfolio to do so. He also said he would resign from his post if Wijayadasa Rajapakshe could show one part of thousand works done by him in the field of health. He said further that he would not talk about the things that Wijayadasa had spoken about him and he was not going to answer those questions behind his back.

Two arrested for distributing A/L Chemistry leaflets

A tuition teacher’s father and brother were arrested when found distributing leaflets outside the Rathnaveli Balika Vidyalaya at Gampaha which contained some of the questions in the A/L Chemistry paper discussed at his seminars, Police said.

They said the tuition teacher from Gampahanow gone missing has also been involved in the distribution of a leaked test paper.

Sri Lankan cricket team booed at by spectators

The Sri Lanka team that suffered another humiliating nine wicket defeat at the first One Day against India, were booed by a group of any spectators opposite the main building of the Dambulla Cricket Stadium yesterday (20).

The team bus was unable to leave the stadium due to the protest.
