Dr. Sujatha Senaratne has challenged a bid to prevent her from contesting for the post of President, College of Medical Administrators of Sri Lanka on the basis of an amendment brought to their constitution last year.
Well informed sources told, Dr. Senaratne had taken exception to a decision taken by a committee comprising five past presidents of the College of Medical Administrators of Sri Lanka to deprive her of an opportunity to contest in accordance with the clause 5 of its constitution under election of office bearers.
An irate Dr. Senaratne has demanded that she be given a chance to contest regardless of the new clause, which prevented anyone other than an administrator, who had held the post of Secretary or the Treasurer from seeking office.
Sources said that having retired from service, she functioned as the private secretary to Health and Ingenious Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne.
The election of the new AGM is scheduled to take place at Excel World today (Jan. 6) with the participation of nearly 200 medical administrators.
The college celebrates its 25th anniversary.
Sources said appointments to the top post had been always done through consensus but now a battle was likely to erupt. Meanwhile, some top members of the college have brought the situation to the notice of the top UNP leadership in a bid to stop Dr. Senaratne from contesting.
