Wimal seeks bail from High Court

Leader of the National Freedom Front and Joint Opposition Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa, who has been in remand prison for 21 days, submitted a revised bail application to the Colombo High Court yesterday (31).

Weerawansa, who was remanded under the Public Properties Act, in connection with misusing Government vehicles, had submitted the revised bail application to the High Court through his lawyers.

Weerawansa was arrested by the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) on 10 January and produced before Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne, who remanded him until 24 January.

When Weerawansa was once again produced before Court on 24, even though his lawyers requested bail on his behalf, the Magistrate rejected the request.

Weerawansa's lawyers have requested the Colombo High Court to grant bail.
