Pledge in Nugegoda to make Mahinda the PM

Addressing the ‘Peraliyaka Erambuma’ protest rally in Nugegoda today (27), MP Kumar Welgama declared that ex-president Mahinda Rajapaksa would be made the prime minister within this year.

The thousands of people in attendance received his declaration with approval.

“Mrs. Chandrika Bandaranaike left the SLFP, but Mr. Mahinda did not leave. Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa is the cleanest member in the party. The SLFP doesn’t have anyone who likes homosexuality,” said Welgama.

Leaders of the joint opposition, including Mahinda Rajapaksa, attended the protest rally at Ananda Samarakoon outdoor theatre in Nugegoda.

Some participants brought croton and jak leaves to show their protest.

Addressing the rally, Rajapaksa said, “I wonder from which side our leaders will cry after seeing this crowd. I went home after the loss to retire, to take a rest. But, our leaders met in Nugegoda and did not allow me to retire.”

“It was promised to bring the executive power to parliament. But, what was done was to bring a deceptive constitution. We obtained long term loans. After deceiving the people and coming to power, what was done was to take the country to debt. Now, it is said I lost intentionally. What is being done today is to sell state institutions.”

“Wimal was sent to jail saying he helped to misuse vehicles. Now, not only vehicles, but also helicopters are there. Now, homosexuality is to be included in the Montessori syllabus. Our parents should be watchful about that. We should protect our culture and civility. What we are telling the government by organizing this rally is to go home.”

JO leader Dinesh Gunawardena said there might be a president and a prime minister according to the law, but the people’s president is Mahinda Rajapaksa.
