A total of 2088 dengue patients have been reported throughout the Trincomalee District with 14 deaths, Health officials said yesterday.
379 cases were reported from Trincomalee, 266 from Uppuweli, 418 from Muttur, 911 from Kinniya, 109 from Kurugnankeni and five from Kuchchaveli, they said.
Eastern Province Health Minister A. L. M. Nazeer said he had deployed a team of 23 doctors, including four specialists, to Kinniya, which is the most affected area, while the Prime Minister has allocated Rs 5 million to combat the disease. A number of anti dengue operations are also being carried out in Trincomalee with the aid of the tri-forces, Nazeer added.
