Basil indicted in almanac printing case

The Attorney General (AG) yesterday indicted former Minister Basil Rajapaksa in the Colombo High Court, with financial misappropriation at the Divi Neguma Department, during the last regime.

According to the indictment, the former minister has been charged with using the funds of the Divi Neguma Department to print five million almanacs during the 2015 Presidential Election.

He has been indicted on five counts, of criminal misappropriation, under the Penal Code.

High Court Judge Gihan Kulatunga released the suspect on bail in Rs 100,000 cash and two sureties of Rs 500,000 each before ordering him to be fingerprinted.

The case was put off for 24 May.
