Australia yesterday repatriated to Colombo 25 Sri Lankan nationals held in Australian refugee detention camps after failed bids to enter the country illegally.
The Police Media Unit said the refugees had been accused of attempting to illegally enter Australia via boat several years ago and were incarcerated in the detention camps.
Since 2014 the Australian Government banned illegal immigrants entering the country.
Police said the 25 repatriated persons had travelled to Malaysia by air and then took a boat to get to Australia.
They are severally believed to be from Vavuniya, Mannar, and Kilinochchi.
