JO going solo without SLFP

The Joint Opposition (JO) will be contesting the forthcoming Local Government Elections on its own and will not be in truck with the SLFP.

"We will be contesting on our own under the Lotus Flower Bud symbol and will not be in truck with the SLFP as we will not want to be tricked the second time, "Chairman of the Podujana Peramuna Prof. G.L. Peiris told .

He also said that they will be seeking the cooperation of the other political parties which are a part of the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA), Prof. Peiris said.

He was responding to a question from the Ceylon Today about what the stance of his party was based on an invitation by Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils Faiszer Musthapha telling the writer's 'From the Roundabout' Column, published in the opposite editorial page of this newspaper on Wednesday, that President Maithripala Sirisena had invited all SLFP Members now in Government and the Opposition that they were eligible to contest the Local Government Polls in collaboration with the SLFP.

Prof. Peiris also participated in the formation of the new party offices in the Districts of Kandy, Matale and Badulla during the last weekend. "We are gearing up for the Local Government Elections with enthusiasm," he said.
