Purchase invoice made mandatory by Consumer Affairs Authority


Sri Lanka’s Consumer Affairs Authority has made it mandatory for traders to publish accurate data when selling goods, and have also made it mandatory for the possession of a purchase bill or invoice.

The Consumer Affairs Authority directed all Manufacturers, Producers, Store owners, Suppliers, Distributors or Traders shall have a receipt or bill or invoice in writing or printing or electronic for the goods in their possession, custody or under their control.

It added that manufacturers, Producers, Store owners, Suppliers, Distributors or Traders shall not sell, store, collect, distribute, expose or offer for sale, display for sale, unless they have following information is in the form of a receipt or bill or invoice for the goods they have purchased, issued by the Manufacturer, Producer, Store owner, Supplier, Distributor or Trader, stored in a container, warehouse, silo, place of business or any other places.

1. Name and address of the supplier
2. Date of purchase
3. Purchased Price
4. Type of goods
5. Quantity
6. Batch number (if any)

This Direction shall come in to effect from April 27th, 2022, said the Consumer Affairs Authority.
