Sannasgala summoned to court over 2018 complaint

Colombo Additional Magistrate Manjula Tilakaratne has issued notices to popular lecturer and activist Upul Shantha Sannasgala and Srinath Chathuranga to appear in court on the 20th of May in connection with the alleged printing and distribution of a book titled ‘Budunge Rasthiyaduwa’.

The Crime Intelligence Analysis and Prevention Bureau on Friday (29) requested the Colombo additional magistrate to issue notices to Sannasgala and Chathuranga to appear before court as the Attorney General has instructed that those who wrote, printed and published the concerned book be named suspects in this case.

Police investigations had begun after a complaint lodged on 20th August 2018, by MP Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, alleging that the contents of this book had insulted The Buddha and Buddhism in a very contemptuous manner. (
