Corrupt dealings in Hambantota hospital construction


 An investigation into a money laundering case involving an Australian medical company has revealed details of alleged corrupt dealings during the construction of the Hambantota General Hospital in Sri Lanka.

Australia’s ABC Media Network has given a long description of the investigation into allegations of corruption in a personal protective equipment contract with Australia’s Canberra-based Aspen Medical Company.

Veteran actor Wilson Karu passes away


Veteran Sri Lankan actor and stunt director Wilson Karunarathne has passed away.

Popularly known as Wilson Karu, he was 79 years old at the time of his demise.

Considered one of the best villains in Sinhala cinema, Karunaratne has acted in more than 240 films across many genres primarily as the main antagonist.

Foreign assistance vital to develop country – Cardinal


His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith said Sri Lanka needed foreign assistance to make the lives of the people of this island prosperous.

Italy donates Euro 41,115 Lanka to buy medicine


Italy announced the granting of ‘an in-kind emergency contribution’ of Euro 341,115 (Rs 125 million) to Sri Lanka to procure medicine.

The Italian Embassy in Colombo issued the following communiqué to announce the donation: In the wake of difficulties experienced by Sri Lanka, the Embassy of Italy in Colombo is glad to announce that the Republic of Italy will be granting an in-kind emergency contribution to Sri Lanka of around LKR 125 Mn (Euro 341,115) for the purchase of medicine and medical equipment.
